Your Forgotten Home
I am your Forgotten Home.
My foundation is crumbling, my air filling with toxins, my other inhabitants suffering.
But you see only yourself. You have taken my shelter for granted.
You’ve allowed yourself to become entangled in self righteous values and beliefs.
Care for me has been replaced by Efficiency, Profit, and all the other intangible wonders.
I provided you and your neighbors with nourishment. Enough to sustain all.
Yet you have the audacity to take it for yourself, feed it to your neighbors, only to murder them and consume their corpses.
You endanger yourselves and call it Capitalism. Business. Development.
You ignore the faults in your system and have conditioned yourselves to turn the other way.
Complacency.
You call it the American Dream.
I say the Cold War is over, now get your heads out of your asses and recognize your flaws.
I am your Forgotten Home.
You excavate large portions of me for the methodical killing of your neighbors and call it Economic Stimulation.
You pretend it is nothing, but I know that those portions of my body will never return.
Some find yourselves noble. But you are blind to the fact that even your views are self centered.
You ignorantly argue that my worth is less than that of women, than that of minorities, than that of the impoverished as if humans are the single most important beings. I should wait my turn.
But unlike your egotistic predicaments, I have a time limit.
You are allowing me to decay, and there is no bringing me back once I am gone.
And above all I have no audible voice to plead my case.
I am your Forgotten Home.
